Capitals Update

Some recent Caps news...
  • In case you haven't heard, the Washington Capitals will play the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. The game will be on Jan. 1st, 2011 and will take place in Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • The Caps have confirmed that they'll definitely be wearing throwback jerseys, as expected!
  • In a suprisingly side announcement, the NHL said that the Capitals will HOST a Winter Classic in the next few years.
  • Ted Leonsis, by the way, has already said playing the game on the National Mall will definitely NOT happen, sadly.
  • In player news, GMGM said that the Capitals will not re-sign pending free agents Joe Corvo and Scott Walker, both aquired at the trade deadline from Carolina.
  • Reports also suggest that the Capitals will not be in the running to sign Russian defensive defenseman Anton Volchenkov, to the dismay of numerous fans.
  • It looks like GMGM is really making room to sign a good 2nd-line center (Patrick Marleau, anyone?), unless he is willing to gamble with someone like Marcus Johansson in that position...
  • Finally, the Hershey Bears are once again in the AHL Calder Cup finals, for the 4th time in 5 years. They lost Game 1 tonight by a score of 2-1 to the Texas Stars, but they hopefully can recover and win the Cup for the 2nd year in a row.
