What? (Breaking)

Today, the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Nashville Predators, 5-4, in OT to get the series lead, 3-2. It was a close game, and Nashville was leading 4-3 with less than a minute left until Patrick Kane tied it up shorthanded. The ‘Hawks were shorthanded due to a major penalty on Marian Hossa, star forward. Hossa later came back and score the OT winner.

Let’s take a look at the hit, shall we?

Wow. Nashville defenseman, Dan Hamhuism, who received the hit, later left the ice.

Now, we have seen this hit before. In fact, it was less than 2 months ago, right in United Center, Chicago. Same as the hit above. Perhaps you recall the injury of one Brian Campbell by Alexander Ovechkin?….

I don’t know about you, but those hits almost look identical. Eerily similar, in fact. However, the penalties dealt were anything but….

Marian Hossa received a 5-minute major for boarding. Nothing else.

Alexander Ovechkin received a 5-minute major for boarding, a 10-minute game misconduct, and was ejected from the game in the 1st.

Now, I really have no issue with any of this. What bugs me is how the Chicago-Nashville game ended, in OT…

Yep. The well-rested Marian Hossa steps out of the penalty box after a nice, 5-minute break, and goes out and scores the game winner.

How would the game have gone if Hossa was ejected? Would Nashville have won Game 6 instead of put on the brink of elimination? We probably will never know. The only thing I hope for is that Hossa is at least suspended, 2 games preferably. I mean, fair is fair; that’s what Ovechkin got after all.
