Eastern Conference Playoffs: Day 1 Recap

Final Scores:
  • The Philadelphia Flyers beat the New Jersey Devils, 2-1, at Prudential Center..
  • The Ottawa Senators beat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-4, at Mellon Arena.
Three Stars for the Night
✩ - Brian Boucher, goalie, Philadelphia; Boucher faced 24 shots and had a .958 save percentage as he backstopped the underdog Philadelphia Flyers team to a 2-1 win over the NJ Devils.
✩✩ - Chris Kelly, forward, Ottawa; Kelly scored, had 2 assists, and was a +2 as the Senators beat the Penguins, 5-4.
✩✩✩ - Evgeni Malkin, forward, Pittsburgh; Malkin had two goals and an assist in tonight's Pittsburgh loss.

Two Frowny Faces for the Night
☹ - Marc-Andre Fleury, goalie, Pittsburgh; Um... struggling starting goalie, poor performance in first game... too bad the Pens really can't afford to pull a Varlamov. Fleury? The playoffs kinda already started. And a .808 save percentage won't cut it.
☹☹ - Martin Broduer, goalie, New Jersey; Broduer faced 14 shots. He let in 2 goals, getting a .857 save percentage. This. Is. Not. Good. Enough. For. Playoff. Success.
